Researchers at the AJ Drexel Autism Institute, in partnership with autistic community members, are doing a research study about autistic adults' experiences with using and understanding nonverbal communication.
We are interested in developing supports to help improve communication experiences for adults on the autism spectrum, but first want to hear from the autistic community about what (if any) supports are wanted or needed.
People on the autism spectrum often express frustration or anxiety about nonverbal communication. Our goal is to support both autistic and non-autistic people to make communication experiences as positive as possible.
We will ask people in the study about their experiences using: 1) online surveys, and/or 2) phone and text-based interviews.
Nonverbal communication is any form of communicating without words. Some examples are head movements, changes in tone of voice, direction of hands and eyes, and facial expressions. You can learn more about nonverbal communication here!
As of February 12th, 2024, we have completed our data collection period and are no longer accepting new participants. We thank you for your interest.
